How to Pin a Post on Instagram

By the Crowbert teamUpdated June 2026

Quick answer

Pin a post by opening it on your profile, tapping the three-dot menu, and selecting Pin to your profile. It moves to the top-left of your grid with a pin icon. You can pin up to three posts or Reels, and pinning a fourth replaces the oldest pin.

Step by step

  1. 1

Open the post from your profile

Go to your profile grid and tap the post or Reel you want pinned.

  2. 2

    Tap the three-dot menu

It sits in the top-right corner of the post.

  3. 3

    Select Pin to your profile

The post jumps to the first position in your grid and shows a small pin icon.

  4. 4

    Unpin or swap when needed

Use the same menu and choose Unpin from your profile. Pinning a fourth post automatically bumps the oldest pin back into the grid.

Doing this for a brand, not just an account?

Pinned posts are free profile real estate, so treating them like a rotating billboard for offers and top content is basic account hygiene.

Common questions

How many posts can I pin?

Three. Any mix of feed posts and Reels. A fourth pin replaces the oldest one rather than showing an error.

Does pinning change the post's date or reach?

No. The post keeps its original date and engagement. Pinning only changes where it sits on your profile grid.

Can I pin someone else's post to my profile?

No. You can only pin your own posts and Reels. Collab posts you co-authored can be pinned since they live on your profile too.
