How to Tag Products on Instagram
Quick answer
Tag products by tapping Tag people > Tag products on the share screen, then selecting items from your catalog. This requires an approved Instagram Shopping setup first: a business or creator account, a connected product catalog in Commerce Manager, and passing Instagram's shop review. Without approval the option will not appear.
Step by step
- 1
Get approved for Instagram Shopping
Switch to a business or creator account, connect a product catalog through Meta Commerce Manager, and submit your shop for review. Approval can take a few days.
- 2
Turn on product tagging
Once approved, go to Settings > Business > Shopping and confirm the catalog you want to tag from.
- 3
Create your post
Build the post or Reel as usual and continue to the share screen.
- 4
Tap Tag people, then Tag products
Tap the spot on the image where the product appears, search your catalog, and select the item. You can tag multiple products per image.
- 5
Share and check the tags
Published tags show a shopping bag icon. Tapping one opens the product page with price and a checkout or site link.
Worth knowing
- Your products and domain must comply with Meta's commerce policies. Prohibited categories will fail review.
- Stories use the Product sticker instead of the Tag products flow.
Doing this for a brand, not just an account?
Product tags turn regular content into storefront inventory, which is why shoppable posts belong in the weekly content plan and not just campaign pushes.
Common questions
Why don't I see the Tag products option?
Your shop is not approved yet, your account type is wrong, or the catalog is not connected. Check the status in Commerce Manager and in Settings > Business > Shopping.
Can I tag products on old posts?
Yes. Open a published post, tap the three-dot menu, choose Edit, and add product tags the same way you would at posting time.
How many products can I tag in one post?
Up to 20 across a carousel and 5 on a single image. Reels and Stories support product tags too, with their own limits.
Do product tags cost anything?
Tagging is free. Fees only enter the picture if you use Instagram's native checkout, which takes a selling fee on those transactions.
