Pinterest Pin Size: 2:3, and the Safe Zone Nobody Mentions

By the Crowbert teamUpdated September 2026
1000 x 15002:3pixels, recommended

Quick answer

Standard Pinterest pins work at 1000 x 1500 in a 2:3 ratio, and video pins at 1080 x 1920. Pinterest documents the file rules rather than the pixel sizes: 20 MB on web, video between 4 seconds and 5 minutes, and a safe zone that excludes 790 pixels at the bottom.

What the table does not tell you

  • The documented safe zone reserves 790 pixels at the bottom. On a 1500 pixel tall pin that is more than half the canvas, and it is where overlaid text goes to be covered.
  • Pinterest accepts TIFF and BMP, which almost nothing else does. It does not make them a good idea, but it explains why a pin uploads where the same file fails elsewhere.
  • Video pins have a 4 second floor. Anything shorter is rejected outright rather than looped.
  • Titles cut off at 100 characters and descriptions at 250. Both are shorter than they look in the composer, so front-load the part that has to be read.

Common questions

What size should a Pinterest pin be?

1000 x 1500 at 2:3 for a standard pin. Pinterest lists 2:3 among its supported ratios without publishing the pixel size, and documents 1080 x 1920 for full-screen video.

What is the Pinterest safe zone?

Margins of 270 pixels at the top, 65 on the left, 195 on the right and 790 at the bottom. The bottom figure is the one that catches people, because it covers most of a tall pin.

How long can a Pinterest video be?

Between 4 seconds and 5 minutes, encoded as H.264 or H.265.
