Username ideas that fit the rules

By the Crowbert teamUpdated September 2026

Most username lists are a few hundred strings nobody checked. Every one of the 1300+ names here passed the length and character rules of the platform it is listed under, and the rules themselves are sourced to each platform’s own documentation. Start with where the account will live, or with the feel you want.

Username rules, platform by platform

The limits differ more than most people expect, which is why a handle you hold on one platform can be rejected by another. Each platform’s page has the full set, including how often a name can be changed.

Common questions

What makes a good username?

It is short enough to say out loud, spelled the way it sounds, and free of numbers added only because the first choice was taken. It should still fit you in a few years, which rules out trends, ages and job titles you may leave.

Should I use the same username on every platform?

Yes, where you can. One handle everywhere means people who find you on one platform can find you on the next by guessing. That is why the style lists here only contain names that pass the rules of all five major platforms.

Are these usernames available?

Nobody outside the platform can promise that. Availability changes by the minute, and a name that was free this morning may be taken tonight. Treat each name as a pattern, check it in the app, and adjust it if it is gone.

What should I do if the username I want is taken?

Change the structure before you reach for digits. Add what you do (mara.bakes), where you are, or a short word in front (hey, its, the). A handle with a random number at the end reads as a second choice and is harder to remember.
